How much storage does Revit take up?
Autodesk® Revit® software products will use multiple cores for many tasks. 32 GB RAM • Usually sufficient for a typical editing session for a single model up to approximately 700 MB on disk. This estimate is based on internal testing and customer reports.

A computer's storage is crucial to its speed. This fact makes it necessary to buy a computer with large storage space because it is needed to download and install Revit. A solid-state drive with at least 512GB is recommended for optimal results.
While the exact amount of RAM you need is going to depend on your particular projects, for Revit we generally recommend 32GB.
When there are too many Revit files to manage, they become the bottleneck. Letting all Revit users do Purge Unused should solve this problem.

The biggest difference is that AutoCAD is CAD software and Revit is software for BIM. While AutoCAD is a general drawing tool with broad application, Revit is a design and documentation solution, supporting all phases and disciplines involved in a building project.
In conclusion, Revit is harder to use than AutoCAD. Although it offers more features, the learning curve is much steeper. If you are already familiar with AutoCAD, it will be much easier for you to learn Revit. However, if you have no experience with either program, I would recommend starting out with AutoCAD.
The size of your file is a good metric for general file stability. A typical Revit file size for a proj- ect in construction will be between 100 MB and 500 MB. Note that 500 MB is really on the high side of file sizes; beyond that, the model will be slow to open and hard to rotate in 3D views.
RAM Memory: 16 GB minimum; 32 GB recommended; Hard Drive 1 TB Solid state drive (SSD) minimum; external SSD drive recommended for data backup. Make sure not to get an internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as it is too slow to be usable. Graphics Card: 4 GB VRAM minimum; more memory and performance capability recommended.

Highest CPU GHz recommended. Autodesk® Revit® software products will use multiple cores for many tasks. 32 GB RAM Usually sufficient for a typical editing session for a single model up to approximately 700 MB on disk. This estimate is based on internal testing and customer reports.
If you've got at least 16 gigabytes of memory or RAM, then that's sufficient enough for an architecture student.
Generally, running AutoCAD requires at least 8GB of RAM to operate, which is next to nothing in today's world. However, we recommend you get at least 16GB of RAM for your workstation, as AutoCAD will not be the only software that will use it.
You can use it in every phase of your projects to capture and communicate concepts and precise design intent. But, like with other software programs for architects, Revit works better on some laptops than others. Here are things you should consider when purchasing a laptop to use with Revit.
System Requirements and Recommendations. 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 10 or Windows 11. See Autodesk's Product Support Lifecycle for support information. Single- or Multi-Core Intel®, Xeon®, or i-Series processor or AMD® equivalent with SSE2 technology.
Rendering in Revit only uses CPU. However, if you are working in 3d view or using shade or other graphic options, GPU will be needed to smooth the 3d browsing. Otherwise, the gaming GPU with 2GB will be enough for any simple work.
Remove unnecessary views to improve Revit performance
Try to keep your project as light as possible. Too‡ many views can slow down Revit performance, so be sure to remove all temporary or unnecessary views.
For pure Revit use, my general advice is to go with a mid-range professional graphics card such as the AMD Radeon PRO W6600 (8GB) or the newly announced light workload Radeon PRO W6400 GPU (4GB) and balance this with a high frequency CPU and have plenty of RAM available.
AutoCAD (including Mental Ray rendering) is actually fairly light on RAM requirements and Autodesk only recommends 8GB of RAM. However, given the relatively low cost of RAM – and the fact that most users tend to have more than just AutoCAD running on their system – we feel that 32GB is a great starting point.

45% of architects use Autodesk REVIT as BIM software, and 47% use Autodesk AUTOCAD as CAD software. On top of that, an additional one out of five architects reports using REVIT as CAD software, meaning Autodesk actually has a market share of 66% in the CAD category.
Revit is BIM software widely used by architects, engineers, and contractors to create a unified model that all disciplines and trades can use to complete their work. Autodesk Revit was created to support BIM and not to replace BIM.
It's generally used by architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers, designers, and contractors. Autodesk Revit allows users to create, edit, and review 3D models in exceptional detail.
How Long Will It Take to Learn Revit? If you want to master Revit, you can expect the full process to take up to a year. If you learn the program in phases, you'll find it's not difficult at all. Start with the layout of the software and all of the tools first, which can take about three months.
Autodesk Certified User (ACU): Revit
ACU certification typically requires about 150 hours of real-world experience using the software. Live, instructor-led training.
Disadvantage #1 – The Heavy Focus on Structural Design
While Revit's focus on accuracy is one of its biggest highlights, it does take away from some other areas of the software. For example, other digital design software packages tend to create more fleshed out models.
Current there's only a Revit limitation: Revit cannot open the non-worksharing file when its size exceeds 2GB. A number of other things affect model performance and should taken into consideration though.

16 GB RAM. To meet the demands of modern software, 16 GB of RAM is what most people will need. This amount will help strike a good balance between running standing and resource-hungry apps on your computer. So if you're prone to opening lots of tabs in Google Chrome, you find that your computer will barely complain.
Is 32 GB RAM enough for 3D rendering?
RAM (system memory).
For some 3D rendering jobs, 8 GB of RAM will get the job done, but to be fully optimized, 32 GB is recommended, with a MHz rate as high as possible (ideally not less than 2.2).
8GB of RAM. Minimum. 16GB is highly preferred. For Windows 10, 16GB on a non-server installation (what you will have on practically every laptop) is good enough.
Revit allows for better work sharing, if everyone is using it. AutoCAD is ideal for 2D drawing, representing real-scale elements for your project. Revit however, is a whole lot closer to the real thing. It can be used to build 3D components with real-life information.
Over time, Revit can replace AutoCAD. Some criticism of Revit is that it feels like putting the cart before the horse if using it for Schematic Design, but by starting conceptual workflows in FormIt, designers can transfer their schematic designs much more fluidly into Revit for documentation.
SketchUp is intuitive, powerful 3D modeling software built for professionals and creatives of all kinds. Categories in common with Revit: Building Design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Architectural Rendering.
RAM Memory 16 GB minimum (32 GB or more is highly recommended). Internal Hard Drive 1 TB minimum. You should also have an external hard drive for backup. Graphics Card 4 GB VRAM minimum.
16GB is enough for editing 1080p projects or 4K files with minimum effects. However, with background tasks running, and multiple applications open, the computer might struggle to work efficiently.
While there is no undisputed choice between the two when it comes to working on a machine, it is safe to say that a combination of both is the best position one can be in, a customized machine with a high functioning capacity to work with, and a basic portable machine, that can present all your basic work when on the ...
There are several known causes: Large number of annotative objects present in a drawing. General file corruption. Antivirus blocking AutoCAD.

Does CAD benefit from more RAM?
It's better to use more RAM than written in the system requirements for good performance. For 2D drawings, 16 GB is a good value. For 3D drawings, 32 GB should suffice.
Best GPU for Revit
Something like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER or the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT would be a good place to start.
Revit is a BIM software specifically designed for 3D modeling and data management that STG Design adopted around 2012. Revit is an invaluable part of our toolbox, but it is also challenging to master. Despite its complexity, the benefits of using Revit are immense.
Make sure it's not an HP. They are often the least expensive when compared to similar Dell or Lenovo machines but we have found HP laptops to be poor in terms of quality and reliability.
Engineers can use Revit to produce accurate design intent models, providing other engineers and detailers with the information they need to develop models at a higher level of fidelity for fabrication and installation purposes.
optimized memory for Autodesk Revit 2022
We recommend to use 4-8 GB RAM per CPU core. For example, if you opt for a single six-core processor, 32 GB of RAM is sufficient for basic tasks or 64 GB for more demanding tasks.
Revit vs Sketchup: the differences
Overall, Revit is aimed at more complex projects of whole infrastructures. Sketchup would handle such a project too, but it's much better fitted for interior design thanks to 3D visualization tools.
64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 10 or Windows 11. See Autodesk's Product Support Lifecycle for support information. Single- or Multi-Core Intel®, Xeon®, or i-Series processor or AMD® equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.
- OS: Microsoft Windows 10.
- CPU: Single or multicore Intel, Xeon or i-Series processor or an equivalent AMD processor with SSE2 technology.
- Memory: 8 gigabytes of RAM.
- Disk space: 30 gigabytes.
A critical factor in the speed and performance of your computer is the amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) that is installed. Adding more RAM should improve the performance of Revit and your computer; however, even a computer with a fast CPU can run slowly without the proper amount of RAM.
Why is Revit so difficult?
One reason for this is that Revit is a parametric modeling program, meaning that elements such as walls and windows are created based on predefined parameters. This can make the software less intuitive to use than AutoCAD, which uses a more traditional drawing interface.
