Autodesk and the Revit Factory are pleased to announce support for Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Revit LT running on Microsoft Windows 11. Support will cover Revit versions 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, including all updates.

Autodesk Revit 2022 release was appreciated by many users and proved to be the most stable version of the software in quite some time. The Revit Factory announced the Revit 2023 release, and the update has been rolled out globally.

Revit 2023.1 introduces Twinmotion for Revit, upgrades to MEP modeling tools, more analytical to physical model automation for structural analysis, and handy advancements for everyone, like the ability to edit revisions on multiple sheets, upgrades to the project browser and command functionality, and more!

Windows 11 will only be released for 64-bit systems, so computers with a 32-bit processor will not be able to upgrade. However, 32-bit programs can still be used in the 64-bit environment.

Will my existing apps and hardware devices work with Windows 11? Most apps and devices that work with Windows 10 should work as expected under Windows 11. The new operating system is sufficiently similar to its predecessor that the differences shouldn't pose a problem for most apps.

Across the board, we see a big performance improvement. Windows 11 sees an average increase of 18% V-Ray's GPU rendering no matter which CPU is selected. This is a highly encouraging result.

It's also important to know that, for most people, Windows 11 Home will do pretty much anything you need it to do. As the name implies, the Pro edition is meant for professionals, usually people using their devices for work.

With more automation for your steel connection libraries and many improvements for rebar, including adaptive placement and better visualization, Revit 2023 is a more complete toolset for the structural engineer and detailer.

Is Revit 2023 available?

Additional Information: The full install of Revit 2023 released on April 5th, 2022 was version 23.0. 1.318. The full install version of Revit 2023 was replaced in early May 2022 with version 23.0. 11.19 which already includes the fixes in Revit 2023.0.

If multi-purpose drafting is all you need, then consider AutoCAD or Vectorworks instead of a BIM like Revit or ArchiCAD.

The ideal processors for AutoCAD and Revit software should have a minimum of four cores. These include the high-end Intel i7 with six cores, Ryzen with eight cores, and Xeon and Threadripper processors explicitly designed for such tasks with 12 or more cores in a single CPU.

In conclusion, Revit is harder to use than AutoCAD. Although it offers more features, the learning curve is much steeper. If you are already familiar with AutoCAD, it will be much easier for you to learn Revit. However, if you have no experience with either program, I would recommend starting out with AutoCAD.

Windows 11 is worth the update for most people. It comes with a wide range of new features, performance improvements, and design changes. As the latest Windows OS, it usually gets more attention than Windows 10, too. There's not too much risk in upgrading to Windows 11, either.

Better virtual desktop support

You'll find it easier to create and toggle between different virtual desktops in Windows 11 than in Windows 10. Windows 11 lets you set up virtual desktops in a way that's similar to on a Mac. It allows you to toggle between multiple desktops at once for personal, work, school or gaming.

Here's the answer, per the FAQ: The free upgrade offer does not have a specific end date for eligible systems. However, Microsoft reserves the right to eventually end support for the free offer. This end date will be no sooner than October 5, 2022.

Go to Settings > System > Recovery and, under the Advanced Startup heading, click Restart Now. At the Windows 11 recovery menu, choose Use A Device and select your USB drive. Before you update its always recommended to keep your important files as backup, however upgrading from windows 10 to windows 11 will not erase anything unless you uncheck "Keep personal files and apps during Windows Setup".

MagiCAD 2023 also includes the new features from the previous two update releases and has backward compatibility all the way to Autodesk AutoCAD 2019.

Most apps (and other programs, like games or utilities) that were created for earlier versions of Windows will work in the most recent versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11, but some older ones might run poorly or not at all.

I've done a lot of testing of different systems, and I now recommend that 8GB be considered a practical minimum for Windows 11.

If you want to master Revit, you can expect the full process to take up to a year. If you learn the program in phases, you'll find it's not difficult at all. Start with the layout of the software and all of the tools first, which can take about three months.

Can I open Revit 2023 in 2022?

You can't. Revit is not back-wards compatible. You could export to IFC and load the IFC in 2014 and get something resembling your design, but that is not what IFC is meant to be.

How much RAM do I need for Revit?

While the exact amount of RAM you need is going to depend on your particular projects, for Revit we generally recommend 32GB. This should allow you to open and work with a single project with a file size of up to at least 1GB without any issues and to do some multitasking with other programs like Photoshop or 3ds Max.

According to this Autodesk article, AutoCAD 2021 and 2022 are fully compatible with Windows 11, provided that all hardware drivers have been upgraded to Windows 11 versions prior to the installation of AutoCAD. If you choose to upgrade, also ensure that peripherals have compatible drivers or software for Windows 11.

AutoCAD and toolset of versions 2021 and 2022 are fully supporting Windows 11. It is recommended before installing the AutoCAD-based products to update all hardware drivers to Windows 11 first.

Will AutoCAD 2013 work on Windows 11?

AutoCAD will work on Windows 11, but you may need to upgrade your software to the latest version in order to avoid any compatibility issues. Alternatively, you can run AutoCAD in a virtual machine or emulation software such as VMware Workstation or Parallels Desktop.

Windows 11 will have an annual feature update cadence. Windows 11 feature updates will release in the second half of the calendar year and will come with 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, and Pro Education editions; 36 months of support for Enterprise and Education editions.

Windows 11 users have reported delays after clicking on File Explorer items and menus being slow to open. There are also some reports of the screen flickering in response to right-clicking on an item in File Explorer.

But if you're still hesitant, there's really no reason why you should upgrade to Windows 11 right away. As long as you're on Windows 10, you'll have access to many of Windows 11's key features (like Auto HDR and virtual desktops) as well as critical updates and security patches through 2025.
